Pyraminx Trignis

This August I'm solving a multitude of puzzles. This puzzle solving spree started in May. By the end of June I had solved 66 puzzles. There were 47 that I wanted to solve regularly for a while. So in July I focused on a handful of them. Some of those I kept doing in August. But then I decided to solve some of the ones I hadn't solved since May. Started with the Pyraminx Trignis. After scrambling and solving it I thought I would see what I had said about it in my May post. Not much. I want to fetch my Solution Guides notes and have them in the blog.

Each Corner is comprised of 6 pieces! Actually 3 of them are visually center pieces, but the 3 tips look more like corners. You might call them corner bases and corner tips.

The 6 pieces of one Corner can scatter into 4 different corners of the puzzle. So the main part of the solution is building the 4 Corners out of the 24 pieces involved. You can focus on one Corner at a time, or work layer-by-layer, or whatever. When building a Corner from its 6 pieces Up-Replace-Down and The Move work great.

The edges can be paired up so they can be solved just like solving a Pyraminx. Move two edges together, move them away using The Move, then undo the setup. Make sure you use edges that are not paired yet for the ones that end up where the paired ones were.

I haven't quite figured out how to get all the edges paired, but can do most, which makes the solve much easier. (7/30/11)

Neither solve this year used the pairing of the edges. I guess I will scramble it again and try that. Well. I did. In fact I reduced all 4 corners and as many edges as I could before reducing got to be a bigger pain than it was worth. Then I solved it like a Pyraminx. Then I used the (URDR)(UGDG) commutator a couple times to finish the edges.

Thang is... There is a sticker peeling that is distracting and alignment is sometimes bothersome. You know, when I started solving in May I didn't notice stickers and alignment issues too much.

Not long ago I had 8 Yahtzee/Dice with Buddies accounts that were all pretty active. But then Prize Pass came. I hate Prize Pass. And I hate the Piggy Bank. And so many things about the game are disappointing instead of fun that I uninstalled all the Yahtzee games and 2 of the Dice players. I only have 2 active accounts now. My first two accounts. The ones that I paid a few bucks each to get rid of ads when I first got them. Pavel has no buddy matches. BudLCuber has buddy matches, but does nothing else. Recently I discovered that I can play in Chrome through Facebook. It is a barebones format. No customs, no events, no families. I kind of like it. I have over 2400 bonus rolls. I have a handful of buddies that keep rematching me. I'm playing less and enjoying it more. None of the things that have been bugging me lately.

Maybe some of the puzzles I thought I'd solve on a somewhat regular basis for a while will be moved to the Don't Want To Play With List because of sticker and alignment issues. hmmm...
